Hereford Manor Lake Property – Acquisition and Conservation Update

The Franklin Township Board of Supervisors is pleased to share an update on our efforts to acquire and preserve the Hereford Manor Lake property.

Franklin Township currently has an agreement with the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission to purchase approximately 392 acres of the Hereford Manor property for $470,400.

Thanks to the generosity of our residents, local businesses, and surrounding communities, over $39,806.29 has been donated toward this important project. We are also extremely grateful to the Beaver County Sportsman’s Conservation League for committing $100,000, along with the $300,000 grant previously secured by the Township.

These contributions have brought us significantly closer to our goal of preserving this property as public greenspace for future generations. The property will provide opportunities for recreation, wildlife habitat preservation, watershed protection, environmental education, and other community benefits.

Every contribution, large or small, helps move this important project forward.

Those wishing to contribute may make checks payable to Franklin Township and designate the donation for the Hereford Manor Lake Property.

Donations to Franklin Township for public greenspace may be tax-deductible under Section 170(c)(1) of the Internal Revenue Code for those who itemize deductions. Donors should obtain written acknowledgment from the Township and consult a tax professional regarding eligibility.

For questions, additional information, or to make a contribution, please contact the Franklin Township office.

Thank you to our residents, businesses, community organizations, and neighbors for your continued generosity and support!

Free Little Library Honors Beloved Educator LuAnn Santillo at Franklin Community Park

A new Free Little Library has been installed at Franklin Township Community Park on Walnut Street in memory of LuAnn Santillo—a lifelong teacher, author, and literacy advocate who inspired generations of young readers.

Donated by the Lucy family and dedicated by her loved ones, this take-a-book, leave-a-book library celebrates LuAnn’s passion for learning and community. For 38 years, she taught at Riverside School District and later founded Half-Pint Kids, Inc., creating phonics-based reading materials now used by teachers around the world.

The memorial library is open to all and welcomes everyone to donate or borrow books year-round. It stands as a joyful reminder of LuAnn’s legacy—sharing stories, sparking imagination, and continuing her mission to help every child discover the love of reading.
